You never hear “Hurry up churnin’ that butter!”

Category As I see it.

Butter is high in fat and cholesterol.

No surprise, I know. Here’s the shocker though. I still eat it.

You see, butter is a whole food. You don’t need any chemicals to make it. There’s no cooking or changing or processing other than some stiff whisking.

The term moderation is slung around a bit too frivolously these days. We are led to believe that anything in moderation is OK. If you’re ever held at gun point with your life on the line and you know that 6 bullets would surely kill you, ask to be shot with only one and see how you fare. Point being that moderation should not be applied to foods that are dangerous to your health, you should avoid them altogether.

Butter is dangerous you say? Nope. Butter is wholesome and loaded with good things: vitamins, minerals, a natural liver cleanser, an anti-arthritic compound, even oleic acid (also found in olive oil) and its short-chain fatty acids don’t promote fat storage. Just don’t go eating a stick a day. If you do, uh, read Darwin.

Butter is the same as it has always been. Often it is substituted, flavored, imatated, but nothing can compare to the rich flavor and versatility of good ol’ butter.

Now my point.

Drum roll, please.

Food all around us is changing for the worse. Just a little over twenty years ago, when a busy parent was forced to stop and pick up some fast food for the family, they weren’t pumping chemically treated, genetically altered, sugar filled, hydrogenated, preserved crap down their family’s throats. Two all beef patties were just that. Special sauce didn’t have any HFCS. Lettuce was chemical free and cheese was made from milk, not oil. Pickles and onions wouldn’t last for weeks in the cooler. The sesame seed bun was made with unbleached wheat and not full of preservatives. A sandwich from one of these eateries may have looked like this.

Hey, the Fry Boys and I made this, from scratch, all natural!

Butter should be the poster-food for all other foods, it hasn’t changed. It has it’s faults, but we know what they are and how to handle them. The components of mostly all the foods involved in the fast food arena aren’t inherently horrible for you. It’s the processing and adulteration of them in the name of profit and convenience that makes them very unhealthy and completely avoidable.

We have to stay educated and give a damn about what we put in our mouths. More people think harder about what they put into their car than about what goes in their body. Tsk. Tsk.

All around us the world is changing at a blistering and mind blowing rate. Advances in technology, medicine and travel have made our giant world more accessible to almost everyone. Unfortunately we are trying to shove the same technology into our foods. Food was just fine how it was. Food isn’t an app on an iPhone. The only processing it needed was chewing and digesting.

I know I’m right, don’t try to butter me up,
