You've inspired another meal for me to add to our rotation. Grilled salmon fillets are a weekend staple in the summer, but burgers would be another way to get some Omegas!

It seems that in the last few months/years Wal-Mart is doing more and more of the "right" thing. I heard Gary Hirschberg (CEO of Stonyfield Yogurt) talk about his decision to sell his product there, despite Wal-mart's reputation of being the devil-incarnate. He explained that Wal-mart is helping to bring organic foods to the masses and work away the image that organic food is elitist. I was impressed.

But I still haven't ever stepped foot into a Wal-Mart, and am still concerned about what they do to local economies.

I like all brunch foods. I especially like Waffles and Sausage. Don't eat that all the time but every once in a while, while sitting in my pajamas after a REALLY long and hard week. It really hits the spot!

The unhealthy-but-all-natural breakfast choice for me is flapjacks: the British kind, not the "aka-pancakes" kind. Recipe is here:

http://www.bonappetit.com/recipes/2010/03/british_flapjacks

For moderately healthy I also tend to go with the egg sandwich, must be a Marino thing.

Couldnt agree more. Walmart was the beginning of the death of small business and yes main streets. Its crazy how people flock there and think they are getting good deals. I agree with sometimes I end up shopping there and every time i do I swear i wont go back. Its a nightmare. People are rude and the place is so dirty. Its just one big germ fest in that place. I love watching people and for some reason it seems to bring out the worst in people. I can never figure it out. People act like that place has the last loaf of bread on earth. When i shop at Giant Eagle the customers often smile, say excuse me when they are going by and ofter even offer a coupon if they arent using it. Not that i care about the coupon but its certainly a nice gesture. At walmart Hell your lucky to get out of there alive and not run over by a rude customer. I wish i could figure out what it is about that place that makes everyone so miserable. I tell people all the time Id much rather pay a lil extra and be smiling when i leave the store. Anywho I really wish people would "GET" that walmart hurts EVERYONE. Not just the small business owner but in the long run the entire universe. LOL Someday we will all look back and think Walmart ruined small town customer service. In life most of the time you really do get what you pay for.

Biblical references aside, surprised you didn't mention anything about the concept of business reinventing itself. While being big is good in business, it doesn't lend itself to radical change in short amounts of time. Yes, Main Streets are largely niche market shops now. Specializing in what the big box doesn't have is the only way to survive. Wonder how many niche market food stores you could think of that could manage on a Main Street....

Kudos to you on this piece. I have to say that I break out into what I can only compare to a mild likeness of tourretts when I come within close proximity of this establishment. I can't fathom the whole "save $, live better" idea. How do we live better when we are actually putting our economy in ruins?? This corporation negotiates deals with companies knowingly putting them at risk for huge losses down the road, and to put it bluntly...most of the time has them by the balls so tightly that they cannot do anything but agree to enter into contracts endangering their future. Also, as a buyer in the foodservice industry, I am trained to watch market conditions closely. Wake up people!!! For every one good deal...they are ripping you off 10 other places!
There's no quality or tact in anything about this place. I choose to shop smarter and spend my hard earned money elsewhere.

Hey Jim, you found my Bac-O's!!! I've been looking for them since 1997. Alright so baco's don't sound too good on paper or in this case label. But honey when you're jones'n for a baked potato with lots of real butter and thick rich sour cream/salted/peppered and sprinkled with a little fresh parsley, the only way to balance out the color is to add a generous sprinkle of Bacon Bits! Hmm Hmm

Glad to see the old fish fry back again this year! Thanks to people like Mary, 'the cafeteria lady of IC school' and many of the great volunteers who can be counted on year after year. The fish is fabulous at IC Fish Fry and delivery and lunch time service is a great idea. Proud of Jimmy and his boys for carrying on the Fry/Piper/Rizk/Marino involvement.
