Holy Iron, Aqua-Man! These little buggers are full of some great vitamins and minerals, including crazy amounts of B-12, the added ingredient in Five Hour Energy drink, found right here in food, huh. The cholesterol number looks impressive next to the zeros in fat and saturated fat, but it’s really of little or no consequence, even for someone on a low cholesterol diet. Also, how about that protein?? 22 grams! That’s more than a whole can of tuna and Flipper doesn’t ever get accidentally caught by clammers! The only problem with clams is usually in the cooking. People tend to butter, oil, fry or sauce this delicacy to the max. Try a simple steam with white wine, a touch of butter, garlic and cilantro. (this is also a treatment at a local esthetician!) Click here for a good recipe suggestion!
So, you have been notified. You have two whole days to prepare. Take a break from the egg dying and grab some clams. You can try them live or in a can. Be sure to check the can ingredients and avoid added salt and/or sugars. These additives usually mean the producer is trying to cover up a substandard product.
Enjoy the Holiday and I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow on the very special Clams On A HalfShell Day Eve!
Bi-valve-ly yours,
FV
